Spam calls are becoming an increasing problem in the United States, and they are knocking on our cell phone screens. According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), unwanted spam calls and texts are the number one consumer complaint in America. In 2014 alone, the FCC received 215,000 complaints about automated calls. The good news is that the FCC has started releasing these complains for the public.

To help kick spam calls to the curb, Truecaller has started to implement the FCC’s weekly complaint data into the spam blocking technology. This is a major update for our U.S. users, and a big step in developing free, useful, and easy solutions to ridding your phone of being contacted by unwanted calls.

With the new integration from the FCC, we have already doubled our number of spam detection in the U.S. from 4 million to 8 million unwanted calls every month!

The Stats on Spam
In 2014, we conducted a Nielson study which proved unwanted calls to be more than simple annoyances. With more than 17.6 million Americans claiming to have lost money on a phone fraud or scam, we know that this problem is creeping up on everyone’s mind if they are the next target of a scam.

How to Protect Against Fraud/Spam calls with Truecaller
Truecaller is available on iPhone, Android and Windows Phone for free in your app store. It is easy to install, and low commitment when it comes to identifying and blocking unwanted calls.

Automatically Block Out Top Spammers of Harassing Numbers:
Our Community Block List is comprised of real-time reports of spam, fraud, and harassment calls. If a number is blocked and reported a certain number of times, it is automatically added to our Top Spammer List so other users can avoid these calls.

Identify Who Is Verified:
Truecaller offers a ‘verification badge,’ which means based on a Truecaller algorithm, increases likelihood of the true identity. The verification badge shows the number has been verified through a social media profile, and also through the Truecaller Community of over 200 million users.
