In Sweden, this holiday is described as ‘Midsommer,’ the literal meaning of mid-summer. In ancient legend, midsummer was a night when magic and spirits would be most active. so people would light bonfires to ward them off.

In modern day, people still light bonfires for fun, but also indulge in traditional Swedish foods, dance around maypoles, put flowers in their hair, and sing traditional songs.
